Closed Loop Analysis of Single-Inductor Dual-Output Buck Converters with Mix-Voltage Conversion
نویسنده
چکیده
A single-inductor dualoutput (SIDO) buck converter has recently found applications in handheld battery-powered electronic devices. The circuit operation and the functional interdependencies among basic converter parameters such as dc voltage gains, transistor duty cycles, and load current levels are much more complicated than those of the singleoutput counterpart. In this project, a rigorous analysis was conducted to develop dc equations in steady state operation for SIDO converters. More importantly, from the analysis results, a possibility of a new mode of operation, dubbed “mix-voltage” operation, will be pointed out. In the so-called “mixvoltage” operation, the converter is capable of working even when the input voltage is lower than one of the two output voltages. In the past, a SIDO buck converter has been used for providing “pure-buck” outputs, i.e., both output voltages are lower than the input voltage. Therefore, this possibility not only opens up new applications but also extends the operating battery range in existing applications. Experimental results confirmed the dc equations and the “mix-voltage” conversion of SIDO buck converters. KeywordsDC Power converters, mixvoltage conversion, single inductor dual output (SIDO).

A major problem in an isolated DC/DC converters operating at high switching frequencies is the attendant switching losses in the semiconductor devices. This can be reduced by introducing either zero-voltage switching (ZVS) or zero-current switching (ZCS) of the semiconductor switches. This paper deals with the simulation, design, fabrication and experimental evaluation of a novel soft-switching...

Transient response performance is very important in DC-DC converters. It measures how steady the output voltage is maintained when the load changes suddenly. For single inductor dual output (SIDO) converters (1)~(4) that work in continuous conduction mode (CCM), the transient response affects cross-regulation: if the load of one sub-converter changes, the output voltage of the other sub-convert...

Cross regulation is the main technical drawback of a Single-Inductor Multiple-Output (SIMO) dc-dc converter. This paper proposes a multivariable digital controller to suppress the cross regulation of a SingleInductor Dual-Output (SIDO) buck converter in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) operation. The controller design methodology originates from the open-loop shaping of the Multi-Input Multi-Ou...

An integrated single-inductor dual-output boost converter is presented. This converter adopts time-multiplexing control in providing two independent supply voltages (3.0 and 3.6 V) using only one 1H off-chip inductor and a single control loop. This converter is analyzed and compared with existing counterparts in the aspects of integration, architecture, control scheme, and system stability. Imp...
